Liz Kaluzinski scored a pair of goals and handed out an assist in Saturday’s domination of Cornell College. Kaluzinski led an attack that kept the pedal down in racking up large advantages in shots and goals. For the match, the junior from Belvidere, Illinois took four shots (three on goal). The two goals were her first scores of the season after leading the 2010 team with 12 goals.
Upper Iowa used a four-goal first half and distinct advantage in shots to claim their first win of the 2011 campaign in Mount Vernon against former Iowa Conference rival Cornell College. The Peacocks finished the match with an 18-4 advantage in shots which correlated to a 6-0 win on the scoreboard. Goal scorers included Kali Loescher, Jill Schechinger, Alyssa Petersburg, Liz Kaluzinski (2) and Corrine Wronski. The goals were assisted by Amanda Millard (2), Kaluzinski, Emily Gielau, Schechinger, and Valeria Ptasinski. Briel Kohl recorded the win in goal as she and Kaitlyn Emanuel shared the shutout. The Peacocks will open their 2011 NSIC season on Friday night, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. in Winona, Minn. Upper Iowa will take on the Warriors of Winona State University before returning to Pattison Field in Fayette for a Sunday matinee with Jamestown.
