Upper Iowa University Athletics

The Upper Iowa wrestling program fared very well at the NCAA Super Regional III hosted by Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Peacocks placed third as a team; tied with Minnesota State after each team scored 99 points. St. Cloud State won the Super Regional with 131 points, while Augustana finished second with 120 points. 

 

Trevor Franklin led the way for UIU with a dominating 4-0 performance on the day which included wins by fall, technical fall, major decision, and a 4-0 decision in the championship match.   The redshirt sophomore claimed his second Super Regional title with the win. In 2009, Franklin earned the title at 133 pounds.  He is currently on a 12-match win streak and is 23-2 on the year.

 

Six other Peacocks will join Franklin as UIU travels to the NCAA Championships in Kearney, Neb. in two weeks.  Four Peacocks claimed their third place matches to punch their tickets, while two more placed fourth and earned the berth to the championships.  Mark Mueller (174), Mitch Schultz (184), Carl Broghammer (197) and Zach Rosol (285) all placed third at the regional, while Kyle Pedretti (133) and Winston Robbins (157) both placed fourth.
