Trevor Franklin (#3 NCAA) went 2-0 in the duals and now has won 20 straight duals matches and remains undefeated in his UIU career in duals. On Thursday, he put the Peacocks ahead 4-0 with a major decision (10-2) over Matt Garcia of U-Mary. The sophomore scored a takedown in each of the three periods and added two nearfall points to claim a controlled and dominant victory.  He also added a ride time advantage of 2:49. On Sunday, Franklin came to the mat with UIU down 3-0 to NSU. The 125-pounder gave the lead back to the home team with a second impressive major decision (15-3) victory over Corbin Surat.  Franklin tallied four takedowns and added nearfall points on two occasions. The final point came with Franklin’s ride time of 2:55. The win over Surat was even more impressive as the Wolves’ wrestler was coming off a 4-2 win over #1 Andy Forstner of Minnesota State the night before.

 

Upper Iowa returned to the mat in Dorman Gym for their first two NSIC duals of the season this past week. The #11 Peacocks claimed a 34-6 win over U-Mary on Thursday and then followed with a 25-15 win over Northern State. UIU claimed three pins, a tech. fall and six major decisions in the two duals. With the wins, the Peacocks are now 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC.

 

Upper Iowa will be on the road for their next two Northern Sun duals. The Peacocks will visit Minnesota State on Thursday, Jan. 27, and Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, Jan. 28. Both duals are schedule for 7 p.m. starts.
