Upper Iowa women's track & field sophomore
Shay Lierman competed at the Minnesota State University Open & Multi on Friday night at the Myers Field House in Mankato, Minn., finishing tenth overall in the pentathlon with 2,610 points.
Lierman competed in the pentathlon for the first time this year, after doing so twice last season. The Cuba City, Wis. native improved her shot put distance for her best event of the night.
Starting with the 60-meter hurdles, Lierman finished 12th with a time of 10.52 seconds, just .09 seconds behind her time in last year's NSIC Championships. In the high jump, Lierman cleared 1.39-meters and finished 12th as well. In her top individual event finish, Lierman finished 5th with a shot put of 10.08m (33' 1"). The sophomore finished 9th in the long jump with a 4.69-meter jump, and wrapped up the event in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:48.64 to take place 11th.
Augustana sophomore Olivia Montez Brown won the pentathlon, scoring 3,808 points, which is the best mark in the NSIC and the third best score in all of Division II.
The Peacock team will head back to Mankato, Minn. for the fourth time this season to compete in the Ted Nelson Classic, which will again take place at the Myers Field House, hosted by Minnesota State University. The action will begin on Saturday, Feb. 4.
