Carl Broghammer claimed his second tournament title of the season in the 197 pound bracket of the 32nd Annual Midwest Classic.  Broghammer was a perfect 4-0 on the weekend.  In his first match, he defeated Corby Running of #17 Ashland by fall (4:17) in the second period.  In the quarterfinals, he won 3-1 over Matt Alexander of Ohio Northern, who later lost a 6-5 tiebreaker match with the #3 ranked wrestler in NCAA Division II. The redshirt freshman won his semifinal match 3-2 over Charles Morgan of King, the bracket's top seed and the 2009 NAIA National Runner Up.  Broghammer then earned a 3-1 victory in the first sudden victory period over Shane Nolan of UNC-Pembroke, who is ranked #7 in NCAA DII.  With the wins, Broghammer improves to 13-2 on the season including five wins by fall.

 

Upper Iowa had seven wrestlers competing on day two of the tournament and the young men posted a combined 10 wins to claim the 197-pound title, three runner-ups, a third place, a fourth place and a sixth place.  As a team, the #10 Peacocks earned the second spot in the team standings with 133 points behind #5 Newberry, who won the team title with 169 points.  Trevor Franklin (#4 NCAA, 125), Kyle Pedretti (#1 NCAA, 133), and Zach Rosol (285) all finished as runner ups, while Wade Gobin (174) battled in the consolation bracket to claim third place.
