Upper Iowa University Athletics

The #10 Peacock wrestling team sent eleven wrestlers to the UNI Open yesterday in Cedar Falls.  The tournament featured just one bracket per weight class.  An Upper Iowa wrestler competed in each of the weight classes except 125 pounds and two Peacocks wrestled at 133 and 285 on the day.

Carl Broghammer (197) and Zach Rosol (285) led the Peacocks on the day with a pair of runner-up finishes in their respective weight classes.  Each grappler earned three straight wins to get to the finals, but both fell by 5-2 decisions to place second.

Rosol was impressive in his first two matches posting wins by fall at the 6:20 mark over Brent Lambie (UNI) and at the 1:53 mark over Cole Tobin (Wisconsin).  The Peacock heavyweight earned his title match with a 7-4 win over Blayne Beal (UNI).  Rosol lost a 5-2 decision to Bobby Telford (Iowa-unattached).

Broghammer won his first match by fall (2:38) and his second match by a 7-2 decision before defeating Andy O'Loughlin (UNI) 3-2 to move into the finals match.  In the finals, Brent Haynes of Missouri, outlasted the Manchester, Iowa native for a 5-2 victory.

Upper Iowa will travel to the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Ind. on Dec. 18-19.
