Freshman Shay Lierman started the day by setting a new school record with each of her three attempts in the long jump. The Cuba City, Wis. native broke the 20-year old record of 15 feet, 6 inches on her first jump with a leap of 15 feet, 7 inches. She improved to 16 feet, 3 inches on her second jump, before jumping nearly 16 feet, 7 inches on her final attempt to place second in the long jump.

But Lierman wasn't done breaking and re-breaking Upper Iowa records on the day. In the 60 meter hurdles, Lierman broke the school record of 10.26 seconds in the preliminaries with a time of 10.02. Then in the finals, the freshman ran a time of 9.90 to break her own record and set a new UIU mark.
