Upper Iowa University Athletics

Matt Lesan had a great opening night to his senior season on Saturday at Drury. The guard from Solon, Iowa scored 28 points against the “last team out” in the latest Top 25 poll.  Lesan hit on 9 of his 14 attempts from the field including 5 of 8 from beyond the arc.  For good measure, the Peacock senior added 5 points at the charity stripe. 

 

Drury defeated Upper Iowa 88-69 in the teams’ season openers.  DU and UIU both hit 18 free throws on the night, while Upper Iowa hit one more three-pointer on the night (7 to 6). The difference on offense came in the 10 additional field goals made by the home team thanks to the Panthers 14 steals.

The Peacocks’ next game will come at home in Dorman Gym next Saturday, Nov. 20. Upper Iowa will host the Hawks of Quincy on Prochaska Court with tipoff set for 3 p.m.
