Colbey Vance (165, R-So., Bettendorf, Iowa, Bettendorf HS)
  • Defeated Tyler Schneider of UW-La Crosse (#6 NCAA DIII) by fall (6:45)
  • Vance was leading 9-3 at the time of the pin
  • After falling behind 2-0 early, Vance used a takedown in each of the first two periods to take a 5-3 lead heading to the final period
  • In the third period, Vance escaped from the bottom position and added a takedown and a penalty point as Scheider was called for stalling a second time
  • Vance worked his position into a pin with just 15 seconds to wrestle in the match
  • The win improved Vance’s record to 16-8 with his 6th win by fall
 
Team
  • The Peacocks, ranked #17 in the NWCA's Division II Poll released today, dominated their match up with the Eagles of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in New Hampton, Iowa Friday night.  In the dual that crossed division lines, Upper Iowa claimed eight of the ten matches including five by fall.  The Eagles came into the contest with a 5-0 record and the #6 ranking in the latest Division III poll.
  • Garrett Wangsness opened the match for the Peacocks with a dominating 9-0 major decision at 125 pounds.  Matt Paulus followed the opening win with UIU's first win by fall (2:12).  Jordan Roths made it 13-0 with a 5-2 decision at 141 pounds.
  • The Eagles claimed a win by fall at 149 pounds by Kasey Einerson just 40 seconds into the match.
  • Upper Iowa answered in a big way.  The Peacocks held a 13-6 lead heading to the 157 pound match, but UIU pushed their lead from six to thirty points thanks to four consecutive wins by fall.  Jordan Rinkenstarted the run with a pin just 22 seconds into the second period.  Colbey Vance followed with a pin just 15 seconds before the end of the match as he was leading 9-3.  Dalton Westerlund kept the train rolling with UIU's fastest pin of the night (1:22) and Blake Sorensen (184) capped the run off with a pin at the 1:30 mark after taking an early 5-0 lead.
  • With UIU leading 37-6, Brock Gobin took to the mat at 197 pounds and fought hard but dropped a 1-0 decision to Eric Twohey, who improved to 17-0 on the season.
  • Logan Hopp closed out the dual with an exciting heavyweight match against Cody Endres.  Leading 3-2 in the third period, Hopp scored a late takedown and added two nearfall points to secure the 7-2 victory.
  • Upper Iowa will head to Fort Wayne, Ind. this weekend, Jan. 9-10, to compete in the 2015 Multidivisional National Duals.
