Upper Iowa University Athletics

Chris Smith had another huge week as a part of the Upper Iowa offense that is averaging 44.2 points and 505.5 yards per game.  Smith ran behind a tremendous effort by the offensive line of UIU led by the left side tandem of Nathan Cato and Casey Beck.  Below is a brief recap of Saturday's win over St. Cloud State, 37-31.

• Ran for 208 yards and 3 touchdowns on 33 carries and added 4 catches for 44 yards
• Touchdowns included runs of 3, 14 and 19 yards
• Scored the game-winning touchdown from 19 yards out with 5 seconds to play
• Surpassed 200 yards in a game for the second time this season and eighth time in his career. 
• Season rushing totals… 95 carries, 690 yards (5^th NCAA DII), 13 touchdowns (1^st NCAA DII) and 7.3 yard average per carry

• Upper Iowa never trailed and scored the game winning touchdown with 5 seconds to play at St. Cloud State, 37-31
• First NCAA Division II win over SCSU and first win against Huskies since 1949
• 4-0 for the first time since 1964; 9-3 against the NSIC North the last three years
• Going back to last year, the Peacocks have won six of their last seven games
• Cole Jaeschke completed 29 of 38 for 280 yards and 2 touchdowns
• Derek Giesking caught 9 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown
• Lucas Hefty caught 6 passes for 53 yards
• Alex Wahl recorded 10 tackles, while Tyler Fisher made 9 stops including a sack.
• Tim Rueb converted his first field goal attempt of the season (19 yds)
• Upper Iowa will play Augustana (3-1) on Homecoming Weekend in Fayette; Saturday, Oct. 4, 6 p.m., Harms-Eischeid Stadium
