Upper Iowa opened their 2014 season in Warrensburg, Mo. at the University of Central Missouri Mule Run. The Peacocks placed 10th out of 15 teams with a total of 235 points led by freshman runner Hallie Whitley. The team posted a total time of 1:23:49.57 and an average of 16:45.92 for the four-mile run.
Southwest Baptist University won the Mule Run with a combined time of 1:15:14.38 and an average race time of 15:02.88 for their scoring five.
Whitley placed twelfth and earned 10 points for UIU with a time of 15:30.21 in her first collegiate race. Sophomore Mekenzie Coppage posted a time of 16:56.74, while freshman Courtney Carroll finished her run in 17:00.32. Sophomores Bethani Jacobsen and Chandra Smith closed out the Peacocks' scoring five with times of 17:02.01 and 17:20.27, respectively.
Four additional Peacocks competed in the race including Christi Neil (17:33.30), Paige Davis (17:41.10), Taylor Dormann (20:34.19) and Bridget Dolan (22:01.57).
The Peacocks will head to Minneapolis, Minn. on Sept. 27 for the Roy Griak Invite hosted by the University of Minnesota at 9 a.m.
