Christy Nelson placed 9th overall in last weekend's NSIC Women's Golf Championships thanks to rounds of 85 and 83 over the weekend for a 72-hole total of 339 (83-88-85-83). Nelson led her team to a fourth-place overall finish at the championships which wrapped up Sunday at the Dacotah Ridge Golf Club in Morton, Minn. The Peacocks came into the championship weekend in fourth place and maintained their hold on the position with a pair of 346's to complete their four rounds in 1,384. UIU shot a 347 in round one and a 345 in round two at Madden's Resort on Gull Lake in Brainerd, Minn. last fall.
For her steady performance all year, Nelson was selected as one of four individuals to compete in the 2014 NCAA Division II Central Regional, which will be held May 4-6 at the Tartan Park Golf Course in Lake Elmo, Minn., hosted by Concordia University, St. Paul. competed in nine events and earned eight top-10 finishes, including a top-5 spot three times this season. The Central City, Iowa product tallied a score of 153 en route to a season-best second place finish at the Mustang Invite in Marshall, Minn. back in September. The sophomore finished eighth in the NSIC with an 81.1 stroke average.
Each of the four regionals will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently with nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants will compete throughout the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each regional will advance to the championships.
The winners advance to the 2014 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships held May 14-17, at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C. The championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently.
