Carmen Lezpona led the Upper Iowa women's golf team this past week with back-to-back scores of 80 at the Triton Invitational. The team shot a 330 on day one and followed it with a 340 on day two. Lezpona finished the tournament tied for 3rd in the field of 83 golfers. Furthermore, the Onalaska, Wisconsin native's 80 on Monday tied for the second-lowest score on the course with only a 79 besting it from the tournament's medalist, Bailey Hopper of UMSL (154, 75-79).
After completing the first round, the Peacocks sat in a tie for sixth place, but the weather took quite a turn on day two with a high temperature of 44 and consistent 20 mph winds and rain throughout the day. That didn't help Upper Iowa as the team finished the tournament in sole possession of sixth place (670). The host Tritons shot a 647 (310-337) to lead the team race with Iowa Western in second thanks to a 656 total (317-339).
The Peacocks will have two weeks of practice before competing at the spring half of the NSIC Women's Golf Championships at the Dacotah Ridge Golf Course in Morton, Minn. on Apr. 26-27.
