Dalton Westerlund posted a 2-0 record this week against a pair of NSIC foes. Westerlund defeated Northern State senior Blake Lundgren by decision 5-2 and then controlled his match against Kyle Begin of Southwest Minnesota State, 8-2, on Sunday. Begin has been in and out of the national rankings throughout his first two impressive seasons with the Mustangs. With the wins, the redshirt freshman is now 22-12 and has won 5 of his last 6 matches including a pair of wins over nationally-ranked Tyler Tesney of Lake Erie.

The #8 Peacock wrestling team improved to 11-1-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Northern Sun with wins versus Northern State (47-0) in Aberdeen, S.D. on Saturday and Southwest Minnesota State (27-9) at home in Fayette on Sunday. UIU wrestlers won 17 of their 20 matches on the week including four by fall and five by major decision. Carl Broghammer (#2 NWCA) earned a major decision and a fall; he now has 130 career wins and is just seven wins shy of the all-time wins record at Upper Iowa. Edwin Cooper (#5 NWCA) continued his dominance this season improving to 31-2 with a win by fall and major decision, while the final ranked Peacock, Logan Hopp (#7 NWCA), in action this week posted a major decision on Saturday and a sudden victory on Sunday. UIU will be on the road this weekend with duals at Minot State and U-Mary on Feb. 1-2.
