Edwin Cooper posted a perfect 5-0 record this past weekend including four wins by fall. Cooper led the NCAA Division II field in pins as his four totaled 5:37. In the only match that Cooper did not put six team points on the board, he lined up against the #1 ranked wrestler at 149 pounds from Central Oklahoma, Jordan Basks. With the match tied 4-4 late in the final period, Cooper scored a takedown and three nearfall points to claim the 9-4 victory. The five wins improve his record to 28-2 this season with 16 falls, a tech fall and 3 major decisions.

The Peacock wrestling team, ranked #10 in the latest NWCA poll, placed seventh at the NWCA National Duals in Des Moines, Iowa. Upper Iowa went 3-2 over the weekend including a 2-0-1 record on day one. UIU opened their day with an impressive 40-8 win over #19 Lake Erie College setting up their meeting with the #4 Bronchos of the University of Central Oklahoma. The teams tied 18-18, but based on the criteria of UCO's six wins in ten bouts during the dual, the Peacocks were forced to the backside of the bracket and stayed on the mat for a dual that began immediately following the decision. Upper Iowa bounced back with a 25-18 victory over #15 Maryville to finish their day with a 2-0-1 record. On day two, the Peacocks split a pair of matches to place seventh and earn their third straight placing and sixth in the last seven years. Upper Iowa took on Fort Hays State, who received votes in the latest NWCA Poll, in the morning match, but came up short 25-21. UIU rebounded with a 38-6 victory over #19 Lake Erie to earn seventh place. In addition to Cooper’s big weekend, Carl Broghammer (#2 NWCA) also went 5-0 with three falls and a major decision. Heavyweight Logan Hopp went 4-1 with four decisions and an upset of Cody Dauphin of Central Oklahoma (#3 NWCA). Upper Iowa will now open their NSIC schedule this Friday at home against the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead at 7 p.m.
