NIcole Pothen went 3-0 in singles competition (#3) over the weekend. Her wins included the clinching victory in UIU’s 5-4 win over the University of Mary. Pothen teamed up with Rosangel Espinoza in a trio of double matches (#2) and also came away with a perfect 3-0 mark. Pothen, whose health was not 100% after combatting flu-like symptoms, battled through to lead Upper Iowa to three straight wins.
With the victories, UIU improved to 6-10 overall and 6-4 in the NSIC. Upper Iowa defeated U-Mary (5-4), Bemidji State (9-0) and Southwest Minnesota State (6-3) to snap a five-match losing streak. Espinoza also went undefeated in singles play (#4), while Karli Loewecke, Paige Olson and Meredith Worrall all went 2-1 in singles competition and 2-1 in doubles play.
The Peacocks will wrap up their regular season this weekend in Winona, Minn. on Saturday for a pair of NSIC matches and in Clinton, Iowa for two non-conference matches. UIU will face St. Cloud State and Winona State on Saturday and then line up against Augustana (IL) and Ashford on Sunday.
