Carl Broghammer won both of his matches by fall this week as the Peacocks split a pair of NSIC duals. The redshirt junior has now won 17 straight matches including the last four by pinfall to improve to 32-2 on the season. Broghammer has 17 pins this season, which second best in the country among all divisions. His only two losses are against a pair of Division I foes. The Manchester, Iowa native has earned bonus points in 25 of his 34 matches.
The Peacocks bounced back with a 41-3 victory over Northern State at home on Sunday, after a 21-15 loss at #13 Minnesota State on Thursday night. Four Peacock picked up wins at MSU including wins by decision for Trevor Franklin (#2 NCAA), Jordan Rinken and Bryce Lumzy and a win by fall by Broghammer. On Sunday, Upper Iowa won decisively, 41-3, only surrendering the final match to improve their dual record to 7-3 overall including 3-1 in NSIC action. Four wrestlers recorded pins for UIU, increasing their team total to132, which leads all college divisions. Chris Paulus, Franklin, Lumzy and Broghammer claimed the pins, while Jordan Rinken and Blake Sorensen posted major decision victories. NSU’s Matt Meuleners, the two-time defending heavyweight NCAA Champion earned the only Wolves’ win of the night with an 8-2 decision over UIU’s Jeremy Brazil.
The Peacocks take the mat again Friday night in Marshall, Minnesota as they square off against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State at 7 p.m. Saturday afternoon they travel to Moorhead, Minnesota to grapple with the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead at 3 p.m.
