Whitney Kieffer averaged 19 points per game as the Peacocks went 2-1 this week including a weekend sweep of Minnesota, Crookston and Bemidji State. Kieffer shot 55.0% (22-40) from the floor and hit 10 of her 13 free throw chances. The Scales Mound, Ill. native also averaged 6 rebounds and 2 steals per contest. Kieffer scored her second-best total of the season on Friday night against the Golden Eagles pouring in 30 points.
The Peacocks lost by nine, 70-61, to Winona State on Tuesday, but bounced back with a sweep over the weekend of a pair of NSIC North schools. Upper Iowa has only swept a weekend in the Northern Sun one other time; UIU defeated U-Mary and Northern State in late January of 2008. The six wins this season double last year’s total and include three non-conference and three NSIC victories. Two other Peacocks joined Kieffer in double figures; Sam Thrapp averaged 12.7 points, 6.3 assists and 3 rebounds per game, while Laura TerHark scored 11.3 points thanks to 10 of 22 shooting from long range.
UIU will look to extend their winning streak on the road this weekend. The Peacocks will face the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State on Friday at 6 p.m. and the Cougars of Sioux Falls on Saturday at 6 p.m.
