Carl Broghammer went 5-0 for Upper Iowa at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals as the Peacocks earned a sixth place finish. Broghammer won three of his matches by fall; the Manchester, Iowa native pinned Chris Brassell of St. Cloud State (6:57), Justin Tribble of Limestone (6:10) and Ashton Brown of Findlay (2:32). His other two wins came thanks to a major decision (9-1) over Vinny Campanile of Kutztown and a decision (8-2) over Braden Carter of Newberry. For the season, Broghammer is now 28-2 overall and 10-0 against Division II opponents with 13 wins by fall, 1 by tech fall and 7 major decisions and is currently on a 13-match win streak.
Upper Iowa, the current #5 team in the country, placed sixth at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals after finishing the weekend with a 3-2 record. On Sunday, the Peacocks advanced to the fifth place match thanks to a morning win over #8 Findlay, 19-15. UIU dropped the final dual of the tournament to #2 Newberry, 24-12, to finish sixth over the weekend. On Saturday, the Peacocks defeated #20 Kutztown, 23-15, in their first dual, but lost to #4 St. Cloud State, 29-12, in the quarterfinals. UIU advanced to day two thanks to a 37-7 win over Limestone on Saturday. In addition to Brogahmmer’s big weekend, Wade Gobin and Blake Sorensen each won four of their five matches over the weekend. Upper Iowa returns to Dorman Gym this week for two matches. The Peacocks will host the Marauders of U-Mary on Thursday night at 7 p.m. and the Beavers of Minot State on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
