Steve and Diane (Kinkead) Harms are being inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame with special recognition. Steve earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education at UIU, where he played football. Diane Harms graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UIU, where she was a cheerleader. Both graduated in 1973. The Harmses are being honored for their philanthropy and longtime commitment to Upper Iowa University. The couple’s major gifts include the endowed cheer program, REC Center and academic building renovations and the transformation of Harms-Eischeid Stadium. In addition to the numerous and substantial gifts, Steve and Diane have been instrumental in bringing alumni groups back into the fold and encouraging them to invest in UIU’s future. Steve received the Crop Insurance Industry Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2018 Crop Insurance Industry Annual Convention. He retired as the President and Chairman of the Board of Rain and Hail L.L.C., Rain and Hail Insurance Service, Inc., and the Agri-General Insurance Com-pany. Steve is currently a member of the UIU Board of Trustees, while both he and Diane served as two of the three co-chairs of UIU’s first capital campaign. While Steve was away at work or officiating college basketball games, Diane was working hard at home to raise the family. Steve and Diane have five children, Kelie, Tisha, Lindsay, Britni and Jordan and are now enjoying time with eight grandchildren. They currently reside in West Des Moines, Iowa, but are sure to be in Fayette on football Saturdays in the fall.
