MIKE VINT, class of 1971, is being inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletic Hall of Fame as a Coach. At Upper Iowa from 1967-71, Vint earned a double major in Business and Physical Education.
Embarking on a teaching-coaching career upon graduation, he worked at Green Mountain High School from 1971-82. There, he focused his attention on the girls' programs, coaching softball and track & field for 12 years and basketball for eight years, and started the volleyball program. Vint has been a teacher-coach at East Marshall High School in LeGrand, Iowa, formerly LDF and LDF-Semco, since 1982. Upon completion of the 2003-04 season, Vint has compiled a softball record of 967-285. His teams have made five state appearances, finishing as high as second twice. He has captured 26 conference championships in 33 years of coaching. In 1989 he was named State Softball Coach of the Year. Vint was inducted into the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1996. He has worked seven girls state tournaments, one championship game and two boys tournament games as a high school official. He is also an IIAC Division III football official and has officiated eight high school football playoffs.
Mike and his wife Catherine (Hyduk), a 1972 graduate of Upper Iowa, live in Marshalltown, Iowa. They are the parents of Carrie, Matt and Joel.
