Larry Albers, class of 1965, was inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletic Hall of Fame in the athlete category. He is a graduate of Keystone High School. Albers was a four-year letterman from 1961 to 1965 for the Peacocks.

Albers was voted to the IIAC All-Conference teams in basketball as a forward three years in a row. In 1962, he was named a second team member, before earning first team honors in 1963 and 1964. He was selected as a team captain in 1964-65 and was named the Most Valuable Player in 1964. He was a member of three championship teams (1963-1965) and his 1965 team qualified for and participated in the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City. Albers currently ranks third in career rebounding at UIU with 1,026 rebounds and tenth on the all-time 1,000-point club with 1,373 points.

After his collegiate career, Albers spent a number of years playing AAU basketball, along with officiating high school sports.

Albers was also in the construction business, plus he taught and coached basketball at North Linn High School in Coggon, Iowa from 1965-1969. He started in the insurance business in 1970 spending five years as a Cedar Rapids, Iowa Building Inspector and 10 years as Maintenance Director at the Benton Community School. He has been the Owner/Agent of Van Horne Insurance Agency since 1992.

Larry and his wife, Mary reside in Van Horne, Iowa. They are the parents of two daughters, Elizabeth and Christine, and stepchildren, Dennis and Michelle.
