Kevin Clipperton is being inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame as an athlete. A four-year starter at guard for the Peacocks, he was a First Team Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Association guard and the IIAC's Most Valuable Player in 1997. "Clip" served as team captain all four years and was very instrumental in leading the Peacocks to two IIAC basketball championships in 1993-94 and 1995-96. He was twice named the NCAA West Region Player of the Week while leading the 1996 Peacocks to the NCAA Tournament and a number four ranking in the West Region.
Clipperton is 20th on the Upper Iowa all-time scoring list with 1,012 career points and is the all-time leader in assists with 610. He is just one of the few players in NCAA history to record over 1,000 points, 500 career assists and 100 career steals. Clipperton played under Coach Stu Engen.
An elementary education major, he started his teaching/coaching career first at Chariton High School in Chariton, Iowa before moving to Greene High School in Greene, Iowa. Since 2005, he has been the North Butler High School girls basketball coach and has tallied a 179-39 record over the past eight years. Clipperton led North Butler to back-to-back Class 2A State Championships in 2006 and 2007 after finishing as a Class 2A semifinalist in 2005. The Peacock alum was named Class 2A Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2007.
A native of Nashua, Iowa, Clipperton was an outstanding athlete with state honors in basketball and conference honors in baseball. Kevin and his wife, Melanie, live in Greene, Iowa with their two children, Dylan and Madison.
