Joseph Fortunato taught physical education and served as head basketball coach at UIU from 1947 through 1949. During that time he was also football’s offensive and defensive line coach for the legendary “Doc” Dorman. Fortunato helped guide the 1947 and 1948 teams to Conference Championships. In addition, he was an assistant baseball coach and assistant athletic director.
In 1956, Fortunato joined the Tecumseh Products Company in Tecumseh, Michigan as an assistant personnel director where he remained until 1965 when he became the director of employee benefits.
During his career in the corporate world, Forunato never relinquished his commitment to athletics.
