Jim Squiers is being inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame as a Coach. Squires graduated UIU as a Physical Education major and English minor. He was hired the following fall as a teacher and coach by Marquette Catholic School System in Bellevue, Iowa and assumed the head coaching positions of Boys Basketball and Baseball from 1975 to 1993. Squiers duties also included Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. In the spring of 1993, the Peacock alum became the PK-12 Principal in the Marquette School System.

He has put together a remarkable coaching career. Currently at 39 years, he is third in wins among active basketball coaches in the state of Iowa with 614 wins and only 252 losses. He ranks fifth on the all-time list of winningest coaches in Iowa high school boys basketball history.

Squiers has captured five conference championships with Bellevue Marquette and his teams have reached the state tournament eight times, including six top-four finishes. The 2006 team finished second in the Iowa State Tournament. He was selected as the Iowa High School Class 1A Coach of the Year by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association in 2003. Along with that honor, he has been named the Northeast Iowa Coach of the Year once and the Big East Coach of the Year four times.

During the 2008-09 season former players, alumni, parents, and friends named the basketball court at Marquette High School the Jim Squiers Court.

A 1965 graduate of a Sacred Heart High School, in Oelwein, Iowa, Squiers excelled in basketball and baseball. He and his wife Linda have four grown children; Todd, Kimberli, Mike, and Bob, and a family of 8 grandchildren.
