James "Chris" Brown is being inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame as an athlete. A transfer to Upper Iowa from the College of Sequoias in Visalia, California, he lettered in baseball in 1996 and 1997.
Brown, a Peacock outfielder, was a First Team Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference performer and a Second Team NCAA All-Central Region player in 1996. He was instrumental in Upper Iowa's conference championship in 1996, as well as the team's capture of the NCAA Central Region title which earned Upper Iowa their first trip to the NCAA Division III World Series. In 1997, Brown was named to the All-IIAC Second Team and was named the team's MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. During his career with the Peacock baseball program, he set two season records in 1996 that still stand. They are runs scored (58) and walks (38). He was recruited and coached by Rick Heller.
Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration, he entered the business world. To date he has spent time with G.E. Capital, PACCAR International, Euler Hermes and Atradius. This past March, he started Global Receivables Insurance Solutions, which is a fast growing trade credit insurance brokerage firm.
He attributes all his business acumen and success to the education he received at Upper Iowa; and thanks the outstanding faculty for preparing him to compete and adapt with today's economic challenges.
Chris married his wife Tara in 2009 and they are expecting their first child in March. They reside in Long Beach, California.
