Korhonen has been a coach and educator for 27 years. A football letterman at UIU, he coached Central Community School, Elkader, to the Northeast Iowa Conference football championship. He has coached at Richards High School, Oak Lawn, Ill., for 25 years - 19 as the head coach compoling a 137-54 record. His teams have ranked nationally, playing in nine state playoffs, two-time undefeated state champions, and had won 34 straight wins(the longest winning streak in Illinois High School Assocation history) and a record for the last six seasons of 68-9. He had been named IHSA coach of the year six times, conference coach of the year ten times, and area coach of the year 20 times.
