Doug is being inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame as an Athlete. He was a four-year letter winner in wrestling for the Peacocks in 1971, 1972, 1973, and 1974. Guilford was a two-time Iowa Conference Wrestling Champion in 1972 and 1973 at 126 pounds. He was a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, or NAIA, National Qualifier three times at 126 pounds. A major contributor to three Iowa Conference Wrestling Championships for Upper Iowa in 1971, 1972, and 1973; he wrestled under three coaches; Coach Mike Olson, Coach Jim Kilbreath, and Coach Don Parker.
Guilford was the Head Wrestling Coach at Starmont High School from 1974 until last year and finished with an outstanding record. His teams earned 12 Tri-River Conference Championships, 81 Tri-River Individual Conference Championships, 5 Individual State Championships, 3 Individual State Runner-ups, and in total 18 Individual State Place Winners. Guilford has won 37 tournament titles and a dual record of 307-130-3.
A graduate of Monticello High School in Monticello, Iowa, he was a conference and state qualifier. He has been named the Northeast Iowa Coach of the Year twice. He was inducted into the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Hall of Fame in 2007. In late October, Guilford will be inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame in Waterloo, Iowa. Doug and his wife, Jessica, live in Strawberry Point, Iowa and are the parents of three daughters; Alicia, Amy, and Angela.
