Dave Kolbe is being inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletic Hall of Fame as an athlete. A transfer to Upper Iowa University, he was a two-year letter winner for the Peacock baseball team in 1975 and 1976. Kolbe had two outstanding years on the diamond for the Peacocks. He was twice named to the Iowa Intercollegiate All-Conference first team. Kolbe earned the honor as a second baseman in 1975 and as a shortstop in 1976.
As a junior, the second basemen hit .306 in conference play and held a fielding percentage of .953, committing only four errors for the season. As a senior, the shortstop hit .387 and was even closer to perfection on defense as he committed only one error in conference play for a .968 average. He played collegiate baseball under head coach Bill Prochaska.
Kolbe was a 1976 graduate of Upper Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting. He has been an employee of Iowa Valley Community College District in Marshalltown, Iowa since 1979 as a job training counselor and, presently, as program coordinator. A 1972 graduate of Marshalltown High School, he had an outstanding athletic career in baseball and basketball for the Bobcats. He was a guard on his high school basketball team that finished second in 1972 in the state tournament.
Kolbe graduated from Marshalltown Community College in 1974. While a Tiger, he played basketball and baseball for two years prior to his transfer to Upper Iowa University. Kolbe coached at Marshalltown Community College. He guided the women's basketball program at from 1983-85 and the women's softball program from 1983-86.
A lifelong resident of Marshalltown, Iowa, Kolbe is single.
