Dale Kelly, class of 1951, was a four-year football letter winner and starter as a Peacock and was quarterback co-captain in 1950 when the team finished 5-3. He was also a member of the 1947 (7-1) team, the 1948 (5-2) team and the 1949 (6-2) team. He played on the 1950 squad that went 5-3. He was named a Little All-American honorable mention in 1949; All-Conference Second Team in 1950; and to the Des Moines Register second team in 1950. While at UIU, he also lettered two years in baseball and one year each in basketball and track.
Following graduation, Dale played semi-pro baseball and basketball in Iowa and California leagues. He also coached and umpired little league and middle league baseball. He retired in 1986 after 35 years as a supervisor with Southern California Gas Company in the Santa Maria office and Santa Barbara headquarters.
He and his wife, Bobbie, live in Santa Barbara, California. They have five children: Patrick, Mike, Bill, Kathie and Doreen.
