Constantine "Gust" Barbes

Constantine "Gust" Barbes received a B.S. from Upper Iowa University in 1970. In 1976, he received an M.A. from Winona State University, Winona, Minnesota, where he also completed additional post-graduate work.

At UIU, Barbes was an All-Iowa Conference linebacker in 1968 and 1969. He averaged fifteen tackles per game during his career. In 1969, he was named a football captain and earned the Most Valuable Player award. In 1970, he was listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges for Athletes and Who’s Who in American Colleges for Students. While at Upper Iowa, Barbes participated in the Letterman’s Club as Vice President, the National Social Studies Club, received the Dean’s Letter and an Academic Scholarship.

Barbes also served as an assistant football coach since 1971 and head varsity wrestling coach since 1975 at John Marshall High School in Rochester, Minnesota. He also participated as a wrestling official for the Minnesota State AAU Free Style.

Barbes holds membership in the National Education Association and is Faculty Representative and Chairman of the Professional Growth Committee in the Rochester Education Association. He is also a Sunday School teacher in the Greek Orthodox Church Council of Rochester, Minnesota.
