Upper Iowa University Athletics

Brent Meyers was inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame as an athlete. He came to Upper Iowa from Postville, Iowa and Postville High School. He graduated in 2003 with a degree in elementary education.

Meyers was a four-year letter winner for the Peacock wrestling program earning a pair of NCAA All-American honors as a junior and senior. In his final match in an Upper Iowa singlet, Meyers won the 2003 NCAA Division III Championship at 197 pounds.  He also claimed the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Championship as a senior and was named as an NWCA Academic All-American.

Meyers placed sixth at the NCAA Division III Championships in 2002 at 184 pounds.  The All-American finish was one of the key factors in producing the highest finish of any Upper Iowa athletic team at a National Championship as UIU claimed second place at the NCAA Division III National Championships. The Postville native registered a career record of 100-25 at UIU. Meyers trained and competed under coaches Heath Grimm and the late Mike McCready.

A two-time Iowa State Tournament qualifier for the Pirates, Meyers placed second in the state as a senior and led Postville to a third place finish as a team. His high school career record was 99-25. Meyers became a member of the Postville Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007 as a Pirate male athlete.

Since graduating from Upper Iowa spent a year as an assistant wrestling coach at Upper Iowa under Grimm, 8 years teaching, 5 years as the Sumner High School athletic director, and several coaching jobs including high school and junior high school football for 12 years, high school wrestling for 10 year and high school track and field for 8 years. He is currently the owner of Meyers Construction. Meyers and his wife, Lisa, are the proud parents of Bryleigh, Reagan, McKenna, Olivia, Ella, Ezra, Atkins and Ismaiah.
