Bill Neal is being inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame as a coach. Neal was a four-year letter winner for the Peacock men’s tennis team from 1968-72 and participated with the men’s basketball team in 1968-69 as a freshman. For over 36 years, Neal served as a teacher, coach and athletic director at Williamsburg (Iowa) High School. Neal coached boys and girls track and field for 25 years winning conference titles 18 times including a 10-year streak of girls’ titles and leading his athletes to 112 conference individual crowns. The girls’ team finished in the top 6 at the Iowa State Tournament seven times. Neal earned eight Conference Track and Field Coach of the Year awards and eight Regional Coach of the Year Awards between track and field (5) and cross country (3). He was inducted into the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Hall of Fame in 2017 and the high school relays at Williamsburg are named in his honor. Neal has two daugters, Amy and Beth, and four grandchildren Addison, Nolan, Landon and Hadley. Neal currently resides in Iowa City. He is a respected track official in the state working the Drake Relays, both NCAA Division I and Division III Championships and the NCAA Division III Regionals.
