The Peacock volleyball program and Head Coach
Aaron Nelson have announced their early signee for the 2018-19 school year. Maggie Streightiff of Dexter, Minn. has signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career at Upper Iowa.
"We are thrilled to add Maggie to our program," said Nelson, "She is an exceptional athlete that has the skill set to play multiple positions. She brings energy ad enjoys competition. We are very excited to have her join our volleyball family."
Streightiff, a 5-11 right-side hitter and setter, completed her senior season at Hayfield High School, capping off a decorated career. As a five-year starter, Streightiff has been named to the All-State team twice and the All-Conference and All-Area squads four times each. Her 2,242 sets is a school-record, as she helped guide and direct her offense. Her versatility is rare, as she recorded 1,085 kills, 1,052 digs, and 156 service aces as well.
"Maggie's skill set to play multiple positions is an exciting thing for us," added Nelson. "She is long, dynamic, and versatile, and she has an exceptional work ethic on and off the court. She brings another level of excitement and we know she will fit in very well with our current group. We can't wait."
Streightiff is an all-conference athlete in other sports as well, as she earned accolades in basketball twice and on the softball field. In the classroom, she is an A Honor Roll student as well.
Maggie is the daughter of Doug and Kris Streightiff and is undecided on her path of study at Upper Iowa.
The Peacocks wrapped their 2017 campaign on Wednesday in their first-ever Northern Sun Conference Tournament in Marshall, Minn. with a loss to the No. 4 Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University. The program soared to new heights this season, as their 21 wins set a new high mark for wins for the program since the Iowa Conference began sponsoring the sport 36 years ago; the team had reached 16 wins twice. The first time was in 2009 under the direction of Head Coach Shari Robertson when the Peacocks posted a 16-18 mark. This season the team went 3-9 against teams in the AVCA Top 25 or receiving votes and is 18-0 against the rest of their schedule. Anna Winter earned all-conference honors, and the team returns all but two players, as
Ashley Larson and Madi Meier will graduate in May.
