FAYETTE, Iowa – Upper Iowa men's soccer (4-10-2, 3-8-2 GLVC) succumbed to McKendree (Ill.) (8-4-4, 8-2-3 GLVC), 2-0, on Friday. The Bearcats scored one goal each half to secure the win.
Dexter Garrett, Timur Nagy and Alejandro Sanchez each recorded two shots for UIU, while Reilly Moore, Eduardo Gomez Montt, Abraham Navarro and James Moody shot one apiece. Garrett and Nagy also each had one shot on goal.
Matas Dumalakas, Arnas Kurakinas, Garrett, Moody and Noah Nymark-Pedersen all played the full 90 minutes for the Peacocks.
Despite the loss, UIU outshot McKendree, 10-6, and led in corner kicks, 5-2. The Bearcats recorded three saves, while the Peacocks had none. UIU was also called for 18 fouls compared to McKendree's eight.
McKendree's first-half goal came in the 22nd minute from Henri Poll, assisted by Paul Moodie. Poll put the ball through the net again in the 80th minute, converting a corner kick from Romero Carmona.
The Peacocks will play their final regular-season game at home on Sunday against Illinois Springfield (2-10-3, 1-9-2 GLVC) at 2:30 p.m.
