Ryan Fonkert enters his tenth year in 2025-26 at Upper Iowa University as an Assistant Athletic Trainer, a position he has held since October 2016. Fonkert primarily works with the wrestling programs on campus, and he is also an adjunct instructor in the EXSS Department on campus.
Before coming to Upper Iowa, Fonkert spent the prior eight years working as the Head Athletic Trainer for Douglas County High School in Castle Rock, Colo. Fonkert graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in athletic training in 2008 and continued his education earning his masters in sports medicine at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs in 2010.
Ryan is originally from and currently resides in Waverly, Iowa, with his wife, Lindsey and daughter Mackenzie.
