An exciting day of action at the 2018 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships closed this evening at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. One hundred and sixty wrestlers representing 52 institutions, marking a new-high for the NCAA Division II Championships, battled through a pair of sessions. When the dust settled half of the competitors earned two wins on the day and All-American status.
Notre Dame College claimed the team lead by the end of the night, but four different schools pushed their name to the top of the leader board during Session II including the Falcons. St. Cloud State University, California Baptist University and Upper Iowa University all held leads within the second session, but it was Notre Dame with the high mark of 48.5 after the . St. Cloud State scored 46.5 points, while Cal Baptist posted 41 points. Upper Iowa and the University of Nebraska-Kearney are tied for fourth place at the turn with 33.5 points.
The championship semifinal matchups are set for Saturday morning. The 40 wrestlers slated into those semifinal bouts represent 21 schools. The University of Wisconsin-Parkside has five wrestlers slotted in championship semifinals, while St. Cloud State and California Baptist each have four wrestlers in the semis. Upper Iowa and Notre Dame will each have a trio of competitors in the semis while five schools will send a pair of wrestlers into the semis. Eleven other young men will be the sole representative for the university on the championship side of the bracket.
Session III will begin at 10 a.m. and will run all the way through third, fifth and seventh place matches.
Session IV will feature the championship match for each of the ten weight classes. The night will begin with the Parade of All-Americans at 6:40 p.m. with the first title bout to begin at 7:00 p.m.
